RomaMoMA Street Festival

lumbung member OFF-Biennale Budapest presents the RomaMoMA Street Festival. A workshop with Daniel Baker on the secret sign language of nomadic Roma people will be followed by a film screening and music by DJ Lazlorrobot.

RomaMoMA is a long-term collaborative project of lumbung member OFF-Biennale Budapest with the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture (ERIAC). It showcases artworks in relation to the idea, question, and (im)possibilities of a “RomaMoMA” (Roma Museum of Contemporary Art). The exhibition presents the untold past and the unfolding present of Roma artists through their artworks and storytelling. Older and younger generations of artists and their differing artistic positions will be highlighted through an installation that both constructs and deconstructs the idea of a “RomaMoMA” as an imaginary, transnational space for the presentation of artworks.

Film program:

  • Doja, a cigánytündér (Doja, the Gipsy* Fairy; animation)
  • A cigányasszony meg az ördög (The Gipsy* Woman and the Devil; animation)
  • Káló, a cigánylegény (Kalo, the Gipsy* lad; animation)
  • Latcho Drom (documentary) In collaboration with Streetbolzer e.V. and Schlachthof Kassel.

* The term cigány (Gipsy) is used deliberatly by the artists

Biographies

74Sehrheiss is a DJ and producer from Kassel. His ways into music started early and led via Hip-Hop into the depths of electronic music. He plays house, electro, and bass music.

Born in Kassel, Mayla is influenced by Funk & Soul, Hip-Hop, Jazz and the Música Popular Brasileira. Also genres like rap, disco and classic house come together here. Together with Anna Wiebke Färber, Mayla is the founder and resident of Groove Couture at Freies Radio Kassel and has been part of the collective Sweep Station since 2020.

noolias is a music lover and visual artist based in Kassel. Her music taste is difficult to put in genre-frames and changes with the time but you can expect some divers, soulful, and moving music from contemporary musicians.

Stereotype was born in Hamburg and grew up in Kassel. An avid music lover since his childhood, he started producing hip-hop beats at an early age. Today he finds himself in electronic music. Electro, techno, rave and jungle are his constant companions, but other styles are also covered.

Sweep Station Starting with a programming slot at Freies Radio Kassel, Sweep Kollektiv was founded in 2020 by seven people with seven different styles. They host two regular radio shows and are active in Kassel’s nightlife and on Soundcloud. More than anything else, Sweep Kollektiv stands for diversity. From Soul to RnB and House to Techno, Sweep Kollektiv’s sets are always well selected.

T.Mane
Starting with radio recordings on a cassette, it was not far to the first parties. Diverse influences from jazz, disco, soul, funk, hip hop, electronic music, and a classical study shape his style. Mainly groovy and diverse, his music can best be located in the UK Garage and House.
