Where can I buy Tickets?

Tickets are available on our website at www.documenta-fifteen.de/tickets and at many advance booking offices in Germany. Please note that the season tickets are currently only available in the online shop as print@home. By writing to tickets@documenta.de, you can already pre-order a season ticket as card. This will then be sent to you via mail.

You can find an advance booking office near you here.

Furthermore, tickets can be purchased via tickets@documenta.de and via our ticket hotline at +49 30 84108908 (available daily 10 am – 4 pm).

Who is responsible for the ticketing of documenta fifteen?

Our ticketing is handled by the world’s leading provider of ticketing solutions Ticketmaster GmbH.

WHICH TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE?

The following tickets are scheduled within the duration from June 18 to September 25, 2022 and can be purchased now (except school class ticket and evening ticket). The tickets are valid for all documenta fifteen locations:

WHICH TICKET IS VALID FOR WHAT?

Each ticket entitles the holder to visit all documenta fifteen exhibition venues. You can find out about the exhibition venues announced so far here.

WHO CAN GET DISCOUNTED TICKETS?

Pupils, students, trainees, recipients of basic social security benefits (e.g. ALG II or supplementary pension benefits), persons in the Federal Volunteer Service or FSJ, refugees and people in the asylum process as well as people with severe disabilities (from 50%) receive reduced admission upon presentation of appropriate proof. People with severe disabilities who are dependent on an accompanying person may take this accompanying person into the exhibition free of charge.

Proof must be presented at the ticket inspection.

For visits by school classes, we recommend purchasing the discounted school class ticket. Bookings can be made via tickets@documenta.de

WHAT ARE SOLIDARITY TICKETS AND WHO GETS THEM?

A solidarity ticket is based on the principle of solidarity: one person buys a solidarity ticket and thus enables another person free admission to documenta fifteen. The use of a solidarity ticket is depending on how many people buy a solidarity ticket and thus make free tickets available to other people. Accordingly, there is no entitlement to a solidarity ticket.

The solidarity tickets are available at the points of sale during the exhibition. No special authorization is required to receive the solidarity ticket. If you would like to make a solidarity ticket possible, this is already possible via the web shop and our advance ticket sales points.

ARE THE TICKETS TRANSFERABLE?

Yes, currently the tickets can be passed on in principle, with the exception of the season ticket. For more information, please refer to the Ticketmaster Terms and Conditions.

CAN I REDEEM TICKETS ON ANY DAY?

Yes, the day ticket and 2-day ticket can be redeemed on any day from June 18 to September 25, 2022 at the respective locations, with the 2-day ticket being valid for two consecutive days. The redeemed ticket is then valid for the respective duration and cannot be cancelled.

In the event of legal or official hygiene regulations on the occasion of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will inform you in good time on our website about the essential measures (e.g. scheduled visits).

When can I redeem the 2-day ticket?

The 2-day ticket is valid for two consecutive days, whereby the first day can be chosen freely.

WILL THE TICKETS BE PERSONALIZED?

No, for the time being no personalized tickets are planned with the exception of season tickets. Of course, we will inform you should data collection become necessary due to current developments in the COVID-19 pandemic. More information about your visit and COVID-19, will be coming soon in the “Visit” section on our website.

ARE THE TICKETS ALSO VALID FOR LOCAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT?

Tickets for documenta fifteen—with the exception of the season ticket—are also valid as tickets for local public transport in the entire KasselPlus area. Visitors can use public transport free of charge on the day for which the ticket is valid.

Please note: Visitors with an evening ticket can only use public transport free of charge between 4 and 9 pm. Holders of a season ticket can purchase discounted monthly tickets during the exhibition period.

WHERE CAN I FIND MY TICKETS PURCHASED IN THE WEBSHOP?

If you ordered as a guest, your tickets were sent to you by e-mail.

If you have created an account in our webshop, you will find your tickets in your e-mail inbox as well as in your personal account at www.documenta-fifteen.de/tickets.

DO ONLINE TICKETS HAVE TO BE PRINTED OUT?

No, you can also show your tickets purchased in the webshop on a mobile device.

WHAT DOES THE MESSAGE "YOUR ORDER WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL" MEAN?

There can be different reasons for this message, most of which are temporary. We ask you to place your order again.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE BARCODE ON MY TICKET IS DAMAGED?

If you have created an account in our webshop, you can download your ticket again. If you ordered your ticket as a guest, you will find your ticket in your e-mail inbox. If you can no longer find your ticket, please contact us at tickets@documenta.de.

ARE THERE ALSO VOUCHERS TO GIVE AS PRESENTS available?

No. However, our tickets are redeemable on any day and therefore make a good gift.

WHY ARE THE TICKETS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN FOR THE LAST DOCUMENTA?

documenta fifteen is based on a broad understanding of sustainability. For this reason, for the first time, visitors will be entitled to use their purchased ticket (except season tickets) for local public transport in the KasselPlus area. In addition, documenta fifteen will contribute 1 Euro per ticket sold to sustainability projects in Germany and Indonesia.

ARE GROUP TOURS OFFERED AND WHERE CAN I MAKE GROUP RESERVATIONS?

Yes, guided tours for groups—so-called “Walks and Stories”—can be booked:

  • For people with disabilities
  • For small children
  • By bike

ARE GUIDED TOURS FOR SCHOOL GROUPS ALSO AVAILABLE?

Yes, tours and talks with pedagogically trained staff as well as workshops with international art educators and artists are available for school groups. These can be booked from March 2022 via tickets@documenta.de.

WHERE CAN I MAKE GROUP BOOKINGS?

Guided tours for groups—so-called “Walks and Stories”—can be booked individually and in various languages on request from March 2022. Please contact us via tickets@documenta.de.

CAN PURCHASED TICKETS BE EXCHANGED OR RETURNED?

In principle, purchased tickets cannot be returned. In the event of cancellation of documenta fifteen, tickets will generally be refunded. If you have accidentally bought the wrong ticket, there is the possibility to exchange it. Further information can be found in the Terms and Conditions of Ticketmaster.

 

WHAT HAPPENS IF I LOSE MY TICKET?

You are be responsible for the loss of a physical ticket. However, it is helpful to ask at the lost and found office or our stores if you lost a personalized season ticket. Additional fees may be charged by our ticket service provider Ticketmaster for the replacement of the physical season ticket.

Tickets purchased via the webshop as a guest will be sent to you by e-mail. If you can no longer find this e-mail, please contact us at tickets@documenta.de.

If you have created an account in the webshop, your ticket is stored there and can be downloaded again at any time.

WHAT IS DOCUMENTA?

documenta is an exhibition of contemporary art held in Kassel every five years under changing Artistic Direction. documenta is considered one of the most important exhibitions of contemporary art worldwide.

In its own way, each documenta has steered the international conversation about art in new directions. Every five years, Kassel’s “Museum of 100 Days,” as documenta is often called, welcomes thousands of artists and cultural professionals as well as millions of visitors from all parts of the world. documenta has become a seismograph for international contemporary art and its engagement with current social issues.

HOW LONG HAS DOCUMENTA BEEN AROUND?

documenta exhibition has existed since 1955. documenta was founded by Arnold Bode and since then has displayed modern and contemporary art every five (initially every four) years.

WHAT IS DOCUMENTA GGMBH?

The documenta und Museum Fridericianum gGmbH is a non-profit organization supported and funded by the City of Kassel and the State of Hesse as shareholders. The organization is responsible for the documenta exhibition, which takes place every five years, as well as the Fridericianum, the documenta archiv, the documenta Institut, and the documenta Halle.

WHERE WILL DOCUMENTA FIFTEEN TAKE PLACE?

The fifteenth edition of documenta will take place in Kassel.

WHEN DOES DOCUMENTA FIFTEEN TAKE PLACE?

documenta fifteen will take place from June 18 to September 25, 2022. Each documenta exhibition lasts 100 days. A wide range of events will also take place in the run-up to the exhibition.

WHO IS THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF DOCUMENTA FIFTEEN?

ruangrupa is the Artistic Direction of documenta fifteen. With ruangrupa, an artists’ collective is curating documenta for the first time. The nine-member collective from Jakarta, Indonesia, realizes exhibitions, festivals, and other projects.

ruangrupa was founded in 2000. The collective’s way of working is based on a holistic social, locally rooted, and personal practice that is strongly connected to Indonesian culture. In it, friendship, solidarity, sustainability, and community have a central meaning. Loosely translated, “ruangrupa” means “art space” or “spatial form”.

What is the artistic concept of documenta fifteen?

The artists’ collective ruangrupa from Jakarta has based documenta fifteen on the values and ideas of lumbung (an Indonesian term for a communally used rice barn). lumbung as an artistic and economic model is rooted in principles such as collectivity, communal resource sharing, and equal allocation, and is embodied in all parts of the collaboration and the exhibition. lumbung will be the joint practice of ruangrupa and the Artistic Team, the lumbung members and artists, and all participants in the preparation of documenta fifteen in 2022 and beyond. What hygiene measures are being taken in response to COVID-19?

The health of our visitors is very important to us. For this reason, documenta fifteen pursues a safety and hygiene concept that is constantly adapted to meet current developments and regulations.

As soon as there are any changes to these regulations, you will always find the latest version on our website under the menu item “Visit”.

IS ACCESS TO THE EXHIBITION BARRIER-FREE?

An important aspect of sustainability for documenta fifteen is inclusion. In order to make the overall experience of the exhibition accessible to people with disabilities, inclusivity is an essential component of the organization even before the exhibition begins.

This includes, for example, developing a website in easy read and offering special guided tours for people with disabilities. The exhibition venues are also being made as barrier-free as possible.

HOW IS THE EXHIBITION ACCESSIBLE TO CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS?

A key guiding principle of documenta fifteen is to allow as many people as possible access to the exhibition. For this reason, there will be a variety of offers, such as family tickets, guided tours for children and tickets for school classes. A comprehensive concept is currently being developed to take the special needs of families, children and adolescents into account.

CAN I TAKE FOOD AND DRINKS INTO THE EXHIBITION?

It is not permitted to eat or drink in the exhibition buildings.

ARE ANIMALS ALLOWED IN THE EXHIBITION?

Animals are not permitted in the exhibition buildings. Assistance dogs are an exception.

IS IT ALLOWED TO PHOTOGRAPH OR FILM IN THE EXHIBITIONS?

Photography for private purposes without flash is allowed, photography with flash or tripod, filming of exhibition videos etc. is not allowed. Commercial photography and video recording require prior permission.

WHERE CAN I STOW MY LUGGAGE?

There will be luggage storage for standard-sized luggage.

WHAT ARE THE OPENING HOURS?

The regular opening hours are from 10 am – 8 pm daily. Event times may vary from this.

HOW DO I FIND MY WAY AROUND THE EXHIBITION?

There will be a guidance system on site as well as a documenta fifteen site plan, which will be available free of charge online and in printed form, so that visitors can find their way around.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET TO DOCUMENTA IN KASSEL?

To travel to Kassel you have the following options:

By public transport:

We expect that all venues can be reached by tram or bus. The tickets (except the season ticket) entitle the holder to use public transport in the KasselPlus tariff area.

Please note: Visitors with an evening ticket can only use public transport free of charge between 4 and 9 pm. Holders of a season ticket can purchase discounted monthly tickets during the exhibition period.

By train:

Please contact Deutsche Bahn for timetable details and prices. The Intercity Express (ICE) for long-distance travel stops at Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe station, whilst regional trains stop at Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe and Kassel Main Station (Hauptbahnhof).
