Meydan in Urdu, Fārsi, Ukrainian, Turkish and Arabic refers to an accessible common space in a city, such as a square or public park, where people come together. The Meydan program of documenta fifteen comprises different social gatherings and takes place three times during documenta fifteen, on the second weekend of each month. The first Meydan weekend focuses on the activities of lumbung of Publishers at ruruHaus and a free open-air music program at Karlsaue as a collaboration of three festivals—Fondation Festival sur le Niger, Cinema Caravan and RRREC Fest.

lumbung of Publishers
Within the cultural sphere, independent publishers and publishing collectives are particularly dependent on solidarity and the sharing of resources to survive. During documenta fifteen, lumbung of Publishers offers independent publishers the possibility to get to know each other and to share knowledge. The goal is to create a network that exists beyond the 100-day duration of documenta fifteen. During Meydan weekend #1 the more than 20 independent publishers create a public program of readings, discussions, and workshops at ruruHaus.

Meydan Music Festival
A collaboration between three festivals (Fondation Festival sur le Niger, Cinema Caravan, and RRREC Fest) with performers from various backgrounds across the world delivers a three-day open-air music festival in a friendly hang-out atmosphere. Each invited performer brings unique musical characteristics, lyrics, and stage performances—which will bring different kinds of sensational sounds and atmospheres when they perform in the open-air scenery of Karlswiese (Karlsaue).
