Bios

MarSoe of iramamama from Indonesia vibes differently through your parents’ eras and bends genres—from Asian quirkiness to Western bum shakin’ tunes.

Jiradej Meemalai (Ji) is an interdisciplinary artist and curator, born and currently living and working in Ratchaburi, Thailand. He co-founded Baan Noorg Collaborative Arts and Culture, a non-profit artist-run initiative. Baan Noorg runs off-school art and cultural, artist in residency, curatorial, and interdisciplinary exchange programs for the Nongpo community in Ratchaburi and cooperates with global networks. Baan Noorg collective is one of the lumbung artists at documenta fifteen.

Longsoria (Jatiwangi Art Factory) was born and raised in a transportation crossroads area on the Javanese north coast route called Pantura. The local songs evolve into everyday soundscapes that serve as references for Longsoria’s musical exploration and experimentation. At documenta fifteen, Longsoria will showcase songs from Pantura as a musically packaged representation of the landscape.

Khun Narin’s Electric Phin Band was founded in 2002 by Khun Narin (also known simply as Rin) and includes a rotation of members across generations. The band always performs in orange motorcycle taxi vest uniforms that symbolize the working class people whose majority is from Esarn where Molam music originates.

In rapper La Nefera’s music Latin American rhythms meet hip hop and electronic sounds. Born and raised in the Dominican Republic, this artist committed to a wide range of issues now lives in Basel.

The inventive duo of brothers Hasan and Rami Nakhleh, called TootArd, returns with an infectious re-imagining of their sound. Jammed full of pop hooks and quarter-tone melodic lines, Migrant Birds unleashes a disco whirlwind that pays homage to the west Asian dancefloor scenes. Retro funky meets hi-sheen contemporary.

Abdellah M. Hassak makes dance music based on powerful rhythms and field recordings of both traditional tunes and natural sounds. As Guedra Guedra, he explores the nomadic tribal cultures of North and West Africa, tracing the tracks from thousands of years of migration to crossroads of traditions where the continent’s music blossomed.

Firas Hamdam (a.k.a. 7awi) was born in Kuwait to a Levantine family and currently lives in Tunis. Since 2017, his research-based show Cabaret, took the form of an ongoing series of live, casual, and thematic performances addressing questions of identity, collective memory, and existence. Cabaret is a melange of Chaabi tunes found around the Arab world. 7awi performed Cabaret in Marrakesh, Tangier, Tunis, Beirut, and Amman.
