Tokzhan Karatai: Patterns from the Past by Saodat Ismailova

Patterns from the Past is a visual-audio installation by lumbung artist Saodat Ismailova evoking the connection between visual art and sound. Four traditional Kazakh patterns are represented by music written based on measurements taken from four wooden figures. Each figure is paired with a sound that reflects the object’s shape and structure. In this way, the interpretation of the patterns can be heard through music, which in turn repeats the figures.
