Mirror Mask Workshop by Atis Rezistans | Ghetto Biennale

Location: St. Kunigundis Church and exterior garden

Languages: English, German

Directions

Pedro Lasch’s collective engagements and workshops with mirror masks are a direct contemporary of ruangrupa’s years of activity (Naturalizations, 2002–present). In Kassel, for documenta fifteen, newly produced masks function as a shared and broadly available tool for experimentation, just as they did during Pedro Lasch’s first collaboration with lumbung artists Atis Rezistans | Ghetto Biennale in Port-Au-Prince for the inaugural edition of the Ghetto Biennale (2009).

This weekly Wednesday workshop series is led and organized by collaborating art mediators sobat-sobat. It will start with a viewing of the artworks from the Grand Rue, linking them with specific ideas from Julius Scott’s book and the Haitian Revolution engraved on each mask. Participants will then move outside to discuss their ideas and experiences. There will be a final public mirror mask workshop including a conversation with sobat-sobat and RURUKIDS collaborators from the 100 days of documenta fifteen.
