lumbung artist Saodat Ismailova invites Aïda Adilbek to a Live Reading of a series of Kazakh folk tales, where the main antagonists are shape-shifting female characters. The readings are followed by an open discussion with the Kazakh cultural studies scholar Zira Naurzbayeva on the importance of folklore in the modern world, the representativeness of local folk characters in children’s lives and the problematics of the female image identity formed by folklore. Between sessions guests will be provided with instructions on the Central Asian game Asyk and be welcomed to play it.
