Tragic and glorious: The 1990s and the political dimension of autonomy in Cuba by Instituto de Artivismo Hannah Arendt
lumbung member Instituto de Artivismo Hannah Arendt (INSTAR) presents Tragic and glorious: The 1990s and the political dimension of autonomy in Cuba. Starting from the concept of autonomy developed by theorists Theodor W. Adorno and Jacques Rancière, Anaeli Ibarra Caceres explores the possibilities of political practices in 1990s Cuba to intervene and transform the order. The discussion focuses on two events that took place in that period: The Declaration of the Intellectuals, a proposal by the group Criterio Alternativo and its leader, the poet María Elena Cruz Varela, and La patria es de todos, a letter written by a group of dissidents in response to the fifth Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba.
