Fanprojekt Fullestadt: Sand in the Gearbox – Football Fans and Modern Football
Active soccer fans have long been one of the few critical voices in their sport, confronting fan-unfriendly kickoff times in connection with television money at an early stage, exposing the arbitrariness and high-handedness of the associations or the security architecture, and demonstrating for their rights or against the omnipresent spectacle in favor of never-ending money flows. The match played behind closed doors during the covid-pandemic made it particularly clear how big a part they play in modern soccer culture. This criticism has also applied for years to mega-events such as the World Cup, which will be held this winter in Qatar, a country that discriminates against and tortures women and homosexuals, disregards labor and human rights, and is responsible for several thousand deaths in the construction of its stadiums.
