Complainers and Killjoys: Criticizing the Art World through Memes by Cem A.

This workshop lead and developed by Hoer NY (Harley Aussoleil, Frances Breden, and curator and documenta fifteen harvester Cem A.) explores the potential of memes for critiquing the arts and its institutions.

We will start this four-hour workshop by introducing tools to make memes and share some of our favorite dankest memes. Following, we will explore memes as a tool for criticism and contextualising this criticism within different positionalities like race, class, sexuality, and more.

We will look at real art world stories and discuss their complexities in relation to these different positionalities. We will then create memes together in conversation.
